How Big Should I Make my Logo on Company Branded Merch?

The old age question – does size matter? Or, is it what you do with your logo that matters? Well in this case, both.

There’s more than just front and centre when it comes to designing merch, especially if you want to set your brand out from the crowd.

With our DIY design platform the choice  is yours – you’re at the helm! (Little reminder: we have a human check-over every order and placement to ensure tip-top results). So, how do you know if you’re hindering, hiding, or helping your brand when it comes to logo placement?

The size of your logo on company-branded merchandise can of course vary depending on the type of merchandise and the design aesthetics you're aiming for. But, to keep on the bright side consider the following your playbook.

  1. Visibility: That’s the whole point, right? Your logo should be large enough to be easily recognisable and legible from a distance. It should stand out and be the focal point of the merchandise. Yet, don’t be scared of a little subtlety if that’s more on-brand for you.

Are you loud, out there and proud? Or, a little on the shy, mysterious side?

Either way, ensure visibility – and that goes for your logo file, too. (Tip: an EPS file best).

  2. Proportionality: Ensure that the size of your logo is proportionate to the size of the merchandise. A logo that is too small may not make an impact, while one that is too large may overpower the item.

  3. Placement: Consider the placement of your logo on the merchandise. It should be placed in a prominent and visible location where it won't be obstructed or hidden when the item is in use. But, it’s not always about front and centre. Have fun with it – how does it look to the side of your tote, or the bottom right of your shirt? Out of the ordinary can be just as eye-catching as the logo itself.

  4. Context: Take into account the context in which the merchandise will be used. For example, a smaller, more subtle logo may be appropriate for items like clothing or drinkware, while larger logos may work better for items like tote bags. Further, consider the purpose behind the product and context when and where you’ll be dishing the goods out. (For example, a branded wine glass may not be the answer for a dry team building trip...)

  5. Design Elements: Consider other design elements on the merchandise and how they interact with your logo. Ensure that there is enough space around the logo to maintain clarity and avoid clutter. Plus, we do work with some big-name brands like Nike and Bellroy and part of their reputation and charm is their own branding – so, work with what the products already have or choose a brand that’s a completely fresh slate.

  6. Consistency: Maintain consistency in the size and placement of your logo across different types of merchandise to reinforce brand recognition and cohesion.

CONCLUSION

Ultimately, the ideal size of your logo on company-branded merchandise will depend on factors such as the type of merchandise, the intended use, and your brand's design preferences.

It's a good idea to create mock-ups or prototypes to visualise how your logo will appear on the merchandise before finalising the design. That’s easy as when it’s DIY. Where to start? Right here. Then, upload your logo and go!
